Happily Hopeless –

Today’s Indian Express carried a tit bit of the same heading. Reports confirm that it is healthy not to hope. Avoiding hope in one’s life helps them to face reality head on and carry on with their life. This study was conducted on colon cancer patients. The results concluded that patients who weren’t hopeful accepted reality and adjusted well in their life.

I have this habit of jotting down quotes and proverbs. I just opened a notepad which contains quotes and proverbs on hope. After reading the article and contemplating on my experiences I think quotes on hope are big fat lies. Complete cliché to life. Maybe works for 10 out of a 100.

Hoping gets you nowhere. I have learnt it the hard way. After putting your best, there is a tendency to hope. Hope unconsciously floats around and consumes your inner monologues. A hit from reality and hope goes into damage control mode. It tries to console you by thinking maybe you didn’t put your best. There is always room for improvement. Or a particular event happened for a particular reason. Even on your death bed you wouldn’t discover the variables hidden behind the word particular.

Quotes on hope and how they translate-

*Hope is the dream of a soul awake. French Proverb – the French are so romantic. I would love to say this when I’m looking at the French Riviera and sipping on red wine.

*Hope never abandons you; you abandon it – George Weinberg. Well people aren’t that stupid. They abandon it for a reason.

*Hope is the most exciting thing in life and if you honestly believe that love is out there, it will come. And even if it doesn’t come straight away there is still that chance all through your life that it will – Josh Hartnett. Celebrities can say anything they want. I am sure his PR fed him this line after a disastrous break up.

*When you do nothing, you feel overwhelmed and powerless. But when you get involved, you feel the sense of hope and accomplishment that comes from knowing you are working to make things better. I don’t agree with the emotions here. I am sure you got into the state of do nothing cause you were hoping for something else.

*Hope is not the conviction that something will turn out well but the certainty that something makes sense, regardless of how it turns out. Vaclav Havel quotes (Czech Playwright and President of Czechoslovakia (1989-92), b.1936) – This is like hitting two birds with one stone. Something is bound to happen. But not what you hoped for.

Happily hopeless is perfectly validated.

  1. Acceptance is the best thing which makes us to face reality. Life is to see not to know – Osho!
